Himachal Pradesh State Election Commission on Monday launched an ambitious poll campaign Mission 414 aimed at bolstering voter turnout in polling stations that historically saw less than 60 per cent participation in previous Lok Sabha elections. The initiative comes in the backdrop of upcoming bypolls for six assembly seats and elections for four Lok Sabha seats, slated for June 1.   The states Chief Electoral Officer Maneesh Garg unveiled a comprehensive plan as part of Mission 414, encompassing various strategies to engage and encourage voters across the State. These measures include extensive awareness campaigns, cultural events, and the active involvement of youth icons and children in creating special invitation cards to promote voting.   Garg emphasized that the primary objective is to connect with voters at the grassroots level and educate them about their fundamental right to vote. The campaign aims to motivate employees, women, and youth through targeted outreach programs, including door-to-door campaigns.   Special attention is being directed towards 22 assembly segments with the goal of achieving a turnout of 72 per cent, surpassing the 70 per cent threshold. To address lower female voter participation, the Commission has appointed Mahila Preraks to inspire women to exercise their voting rights.   In preparation for the elections, the state has increased the number of polling stations to 7,990, with specific stations managed exclusively by women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PwD). Home voting facilities will also be available for PwD voters with over 40 per cent disability and those above 85 years of age, ensuring inclusivity in the electoral process.   With a total electorate of 56,38,422 for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, including 1,38,918 first-time voters, the state anticipates a surge in young voter participation. The Commission is processing applications from individuals turning 18 by April 1 to accommodate new voters.   In line with electoral regulations, campaign expenditure limits have been set at Rs 95 lakh for Lok Sabha candidates and Rs 40 lakh for assembly by-polls. Notably, Tashigang in Lahaul and Spiti, situated at an altitude of 15,256 feet, will host the countrys highest polling booth, while the Manola polling station in Dalhousie boasts the highest number of voters. Conversely, the Kaa polling station in Kinnaur has the fewest voters, with only 16 registered individuals.
