Water supply is hit every time there is power outage in the areas where tubewells are installed. Power breakdown due to a dust storm on Thursday is a case in point. Rohit Kumar of Ram Darbar said let alone power back-up, even water supply through tubewells in their area was not adequate. Prachi, a resident of Sector 45 D, said every time there was a power outage in their area, the water supply got affected. The MC should arrange some power back-up for the tubewell installed in their area so that there was uninterrupted water supply during summers, she said. In the F&CC meeting in 2013, members had recommended installation of power generators for tubewells. But it never got implemented. The MC has installed a power generator only at the Kajauli water works. In case of major power failure, the city only receives half of the total water supply from Kajauli because the power generator is of low capacity and caters only to two of the four supply lines. At present, the water availability in the UT is 87 MGD. Of it, 67 MGD comes from the Kajauli canal while the remaining 20 MGD is generated through tubewells.
