Kids reflect Ahmedabad's heritage monuments, AMC opts for record

AMC school administration on Wednesday sent all documents and evidences required to create a record.

On account of World Heritage Day on Wednesday, 50,542 students of classes 6th and 8th from 272 schools under Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) participated in a drawing competition in order to create Limca Book of Records. The students drew pictures of monuments of the country's first world heritage city of Ahmedabad. The students were given five themes based on which the pictures were drawn in the time limit of two hours. "Kids have come up with amazing pictures. After the competition, from each class, two best drawings were selected and we have given them souvenir. In future, along with the kids we will spread awareness on cleanliness," said Lagdhir Desai, school administrator, AMC school board. AMC school administration on Wednesday sent all documents and evidences required to create a record. "We have send all the necessary document to the authority of Limca Book of Records. It's an achievement for the school kids to be part of such a big event," said KB Thakkar, deputy municipal commissioner, AMC. "Such competitions connect kids with the heritage and its value. Students have reflected many monuments like different Darwajas (doors), Sidi Siyyad ni Jali, Gandhi Ashram, birdfeeders etc," said a school teacher. The school authority has sent video recordings of each class — 1,500 classes, and documents to claim the record. "We had invited them but somehow they couldn't come so we have recorded everything. We have nominated for the record on Wednesday itself," said a senior official. Also, more than 1,000 students participated in the heritage walk in the morning.
