The Gujarat government has come into action after incessant rainfall in Saurashtra and South Gujarat region. Chief Minister Vijay Rupani conducted an aerial survey of affected regions in Gir Somnath and Junagadh districts. The CM has given priority to rescue work in the flood-affected areas in the state and has also cancelled the weekly cabinet meeting. CM reviewed the situation in the flooded areas and directed the district administrations regarding rescue operations. The chief secretary Dr JN Singh and chief principal secretary to CM K Kailashnathan were also with the CM during the visit. Rupani reached State Emergency Operation Centre in Gandhinagar on Tuesday morning and spoke to collectors of the affected districts. He then went Gir Somnath, which is the worst affected district. Gir Gadhadha tehsil has received more than 22 inches rain in 30 hours and many villages are waterlogged. The merciless weather also led to the CM's plans being changed several times. While Rupani planned to the areas in a chopper, flying it was not possible due to bad weather and therefore he left from Ahmedabad airport in a plane. The plane too could not land at Keshod airport and he returned Gandhinagar. He then left in a special aircraft of the Indian Air Force but that too was forced to land at Jetpur.
