All this while the members of this club got away for illegal parking on public road with impunity. Not anymore. On Monday night, traffic police officials swooped down onClub and filed a complaint against its President Jagdish Patel, Senior Vice President Dr Vikram Shah and Vice President Bipin Patel besides members of the management committee for illegal parking by members. Police also sealed the administrative office of the club as well as President’s chamber.police has lodged a complaint against owners of 46 cars, and a tempo, that were found parked on the service road of SG Highway, just 50 metres away from Pakwan Circle — one of the busiest traffic junctions of the city. The owners of these vehicles will be traced, and an FIR filed against them under IPC 188 (Disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant). The offence is punishable with imprisonment which may extend to sixmonths, or with fine, or both.Monday's police action came after the club failed to pay heed to an earlier notice, on July 10, asking the club to create alternate parking facility for its members so that chaos could be avoided on the public road outside. Police also confiscated seven private barricades, from outside the club, that were marked with letters "RR". The barricades were placed by the club management to facilitate parking on the service road outside the club.PI S R Gamit of Vastrapur police station said the club offers facilities like gymnasium, card room, banquet hall, party plot, etc that require the "place of entertainment" licence under thePolice Act. However, investigation revealed that Rajpath did not have it. Gamit said, "We are investigating the matter and offenders would be arrested."Rajpath Club president Jagdish Patel said, "Our intention behind putting up barricades was to prevent haphazard parking, not to obstruct traffic. We have parking facility for over 600 vehicles I have repeatedly appealed to members, via SMSes, during AGM and in the club magazine, not to park their vehicles illegally. But many of them continue to do it." About the missing licence, he said, "The club has been functioning for 40 years, so I don't think there would be any licence left to be acquired. However, if found to be lacking we will acquire it." He stressed that from now on the club will take punitive action against members found parking their cars illegally. "Such members will be issued notices. If they don't mend their ways, we may even suspend their membership," he said.Senior Vice President of the club Dr Vikram Shah said: "Sealing the club is not a right step by the authorities. For instance, I go to AMC's headquarters and park my car outside (in no parking zone) will the authorities seal AMC building? We had messaged 15,000 members about the notice in February, but we cannot force them to park inside."The traffic police on Tuesday seized more than 500 two-wheelers and over 100 four-wheelers from various locations on SG Highway and five complaints were lodged against shop owners.
