Gujarat: Water in reservoirs up, but still only at 35%

All 204 reservoirs, including Sardar Sarovar Dam, received 10 crore cubic meter water in the last 24 hours. The water storage of all these schemes was 9,437 million cubic meter(MCM) and that reached at 9,518 MCM by Friday evening. Also, on the contrary, the storage of water in dams across Gujarat also perturbed several major schemes, including Sardar Sarovar Dam on Narmada. Panam increased at 26,925 cusec from zero while Damanganga dam also recorded inflow of 24,685 cusec water on Friday. The water inflow in Sardar Sarovar Dam jumped from 3,461 to 18,752 cusec on Friday.

Fresh hopes brimmed on the faces of the farmers in Gujarat region on Friday. North and central Gujarat regions, which witnessed very poor rainfall, also received good rains on Friday. The water inflow in Sardar Sarovar Dam jumped from 3,461 to 18,752 cusec on Friday. Inflow in Ukai dam was 39,347 cusec on Friday that was just 600 cusec on previous day. Panam increased at 26,925 cusec from zero while Damanganga dam also recorded inflow of 24,685 cusec water on Friday. The water storage of all these schemes was 9,437 million cubic meter(MCM) and that reached at 9,518 MCM by Friday evening. Water level in Narmada also has reached to 111.38 meters from 110.98 meter in the dam. The director of relief in Gujarat government GB Mungalpara said, "Almost region of north and central Gujarat have been covered by the spell of rainfall and we expect more rain in next two more days. The system created over Gujarat region will continue to give more rains and that could cover the deficiency in this season." "There are 12 major reservoirs in the state which are filled at 100 per cent capacity. As many as 29 dams are filled with 70 to 100% capacity, 25 with 50 to 70% capacity, while 50 reservoirs are filled with 25 to 50% of total storage capacity. There are yet 87 more dams which are not filled at 25%." Meanwhile, a couple was reported to have died of drowning in flooding water in Dangs district. The body of the husband was recovered by the rescue team during the search.
