Violence dying, hatred on social media lives on

Gujarat has reported more than 70 incidents of hate-crime against migrants, including the propagation of hate messages on social media. On Friday, police arrested 15 more persons for spreading hate against migrants, mainly from UP and Bihar, on social media. Ahmedabad rural police arrested five persons in Bagodara taluka, for allegedly spreading hate messages against migrant workers on social media. The five persons arrested in Bagodara on Friday had made a group on WhatsApp and were circulating message against non-Gujaratis working at the Dholi GIDC estate in Bagodara.

On Friday, police arrested 15 more persons for spreading hate against migrants, mainly from UP and Bihar, on social media. Gujarat has reported more than 70 incidents of hate-crime against migrants, including the propagation of hate messages on social media. More than 600 persons have been arrested so far, while police estimates put the number of migrants who have fled the state at 15,000.The city cyber cell on Friday arrested ten more persons for spreading hatred against migrant workers from UP and Bihar on social media.DCP cyber cell Rajdeepsinh Jhala said those arrested on Friday were Ajay Panchal of Sabarkantha; Bharat Thakor and Shailieshkumar Padhiyar of Anand; Shaileshkumar Rathod of Panchmahal; Govindji Thajkor and Chehraji Thakor of Mehsana; Sandeep Hadiya, Devraj Chipra, Gautam Hadiyal of Mehsana and Bhailal Thakor of Patan.“We have arrested more than 150 persons for spreading hatred against migrant workers. We have also asked for the IP addresses,” added Jhala. Ahmedabad rural police arrested five persons in Bagodara taluka, for allegedly spreading hate messages against migrant workers on social media. One of the messages propagated was that “not a single migrant should work in the GIDC industrial estate”. The five persons arrested in Bagodara on Friday had made a group on WhatsApp and were circulating message against non-Gujaratis working at the Dholi GIDC estate in Bagodara. Those arrested are Jignesh Jadhav, Pradip Jadhav, Mahesh Solanki, Ghanshyam Makwana, Suresh Ojali and Narendra Makwana.A Bagodara police officer said these five persons called for a gherao (surrounding) of the GIDC and spread the message that, “not a single non-Gujarati should work in the GIDC. There are 1,000 non-Gujaratis working in GIDC so if they are thrown out, 1,000 Gujarati boys will get jobs.”
