City scholar translates 18,000 shlokas of 600-yr-old granth to Gujarati

Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran Shridhari Tika, an ancient work written 600 years ago, would now be available in Gujarati. This is the first time, the work has been translated in any language. 18,000 shlokas and 12 chapters (skandhs) of Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran along with Sanskrit scholar Shridhar Maharaj's commentary will now be available in Gujarati in a set of five volumes. Each volume is of approximately 1,000 pages, and the total around 5,000 pages. Sanskrit scholar and author Vaidehi Parthivkumar Adhyaru, who has translated the massive religious literature into Gujarati, spent 18 years for the painstaking work. She said the work is aimed at preserving and propagating the ancient granth. She said that complex meanings of shlokas have been presented in the simplest words and format in the translated works, which would help many research students, scholars, and keen readers, to understand the subject thoroughly. A release said that the volumes have been published by Geeta Press, Gorakhpur. The volumes will be dedicated by Swami Viditmanandjee in the presence of former Gujarat University vice-chancellor Naresh Ved at Ahmedabad Management Association on Thursday. The volumes will be dedicated to 25 prime libraries in the state by HK Adhyaru Charitable Trust, it added.
