ID thief tries to steal woman's affection

AHMEDABAD: A woman, 22, resident of west Ahmedabad kept chatting with a youth on a social media platform for about five months without knowledge of his true identity. "Very soon we will be able to apprehend the man who tried to trap the woman putting a fake profile photo on his social media account by the name of Prashant Pandya," a senior cyber cell official said. "It seems he had cleverly faked his name and put a picture of another person who currently based in New Zealand.

AHMEDABAD: A woman, 22, resident of west Ahmedabad kept chatting with a youth on a social media platform for about five months without knowledge of his true identity. The unidentified accused, who operated from a fake social media ID of one Prashant Pandya is yet to be caught."It seems he had cleverly faked his name and put a picture of another person who currently based in New Zealand. The accused attempted to trap the young woman into an affair, saying he lives in London, is unmarried and is earning enough money," said an investigator. "However, before the chatting bloomed into an affair, she felt she should verify the man's credentials. She was shocked to learn he was a fraud," added the investigator.According to the complaint lodged by one Neel Dalal, 29, he got a call from his elder brother Parth, who is currently residing in New Zealand that somebody, putting his photo as his profile picture is chatting with a young woman from Ahmedabad. "The person operating as Prashant Pandya had also put Parth's family photos - identifying them as his family members," an investigator said."On asking, how he came to know this, Parth told Neel that the woman, based on the comment and posts of his wife, had chatted with her on the social media platform and asked her about the man. Parth told Dalal that his wife then told him about his photos being used by another man on different social media platforms and on a matrimonial website," a source from the cyber cell added.Senior cyber cell officials said the woman was shocked to learn that the man with whom she was chatting had put somebody else's photo and was trying to fraud her into an affair.Cyber cell officials said they have asked service providers for the IP address of the device from which the fake social media account was made. "Very soon we will be able to apprehend the man who tried to trap the woman putting a fake profile photo on his social media account by the name of Prashant Pandya," a senior cyber cell official said.
