(Representational) Three Dalits were thrashed allegedly by four men for objecting to their casteist remarks at Nandrakh village near Una town in Gir-Somnath district. Police said the four accused were arrested on Friday and produced in court on Saturday. The incident took place on November 8. As per police, Manu Bhau Solanki, 27, alias Mukesh lodged a complaint with the Una police station, alleging that he and his relative, Bharat Solanki, were returning to their village when the four men, allegedly drunk, started abusing them for being Dalits and made casteist remarks. When they protested, the four accused allegedly hit them with sticks and knife. Another man, Ugabhai Solanki, was also beaten up when he reached the spot to save Mukesh and Bharat. Mukesh alleged that the stick which the attackers were carrying “looked like police lathi”. In the attack, Mukesh sustained injuries on his face. Mukesh further alleged that when they were being taken to a hospital, the four accused tried to stop the ambulance by blocking the road with motorcycles. He said when they were being attacked, people from his community had reached the spot, and the incident was captured on mobiles and then circulated on social media. The four accused are Kishore Gohil, Mahendra Gohil, Anirudh Gohil and Ajit Gohil, residents of Nandrakh village. Deputy Superintendent of Police Ghanshyam Bambhaniya, who is probing the case, told The Sunday Express: “All the four accused are behind bars now.” Since the police did not seek the remand of the accused, the court sent them to judicial custody. When asked if the accused have been booked under prohibition laws, Bambhaniya said that blood samples have been sent for forensic test and once it is confirmed, a case will be lodged. The police have denied any connection of this case to the incident of July 11, 2016 in which four Dalit youths were beaten up allegedly by cow vigilantes in Una for skinning a dead cow.
