Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation submits ATR to Gujarat HC on roads, parking

Apart from these steps to remove encroachment from public roads, AMC has also submitted that it has removed encroachment from the identified areas for parking in private properties, especially in commercial areas, so as to reduce the burden on public roads. Notably, the submissions have been made in the bi-monthly action taken report put forth before the court as instructed by the division bench of Justice MR Shah and Justice AY Kogje in a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by Mustak Kadri over the poor condition of roads and traffic in the city. The civic body has pointed out that it has removed 24,696 encroachments from the city roads between August 8 and October 3. The corporation has also identified 42,698 street vendors in the process, out of which 9,318 vendors have been provided with I-Card. Apart from these steps to remove encroachment from public roads, AMC has also submitted that it has removed encroachment from the identified areas for parking in private properties, especially in commercial areas, so as to reduce the burden on public roads. In a bid to minimise the bottlenecks in the smooth flow of traffic, the traffic wing of the civic body has carried out a survey and demolished around 103 illegal speed-breakers. Majority of these illegal speed-breakers were found in the new west zone of the corporation. Also, in order to arrest the illegal parking menace, the civic body has cited that 1,434 'No Parking' signboards have been already installed by the civic body, with plans to further install 535 additional boards. The authorities also issued show cause to 36 assistant city engineers and 52 assistant engineers over quality issues in 91 roads. The civic body has stated in the action taken a report that reply from these 88 officers is awaited and after receiving their replies, action will be taken as per the prevalent rules and regulations. STRICT VIGIL To control cattle menace, AMC increased the capacity of the Cattle Nuisance Control Dept. 12 teams are working round-the-clock in two shifts as compared to the three teams, which were entrusted with the job of controlling cattle menace in the city.
