When the case was probed by ACB, they found that the prohibition complaint was registered in the presence of Nai.

AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat anti-corruption bureau nabbed deputy superintendent of police V K Nai on Monday evening for allegedly threatening to frame a person in a prohibition case if he failed to pay him a bribe of Rs 75,000. Nai was produced in court on Tuesday and remanded to police custody for two days.Nai had been on the run ever since ACB began probing a case in which a man was booked under prohbition charges, allegedly for refusing to shell out protection money demanded by Nai and his three other colleagues.In another case, ACB arrested Manish Gautam, director of Outreach Bureaue under the Union ministry of information and broadcasting for demanding Rs 20,000 from an audition candidate. He was also remanded to two-day custody.ACB officials said Gautam had demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 for selecting a candidate in an audition for broadcasting programes. “He was arrested from his office at Ambawadi near Nehru Nagar Circle,” an official said.ACB officials said in Nai’s case, LRD (fixed-pay constable) Bhupendrasinh Jhala on the instance of assistant police constables Hitesh Desai and Dinesh Sthavi had demanded Rs 75,000 from the complainant while threatening to fix him in a prohibition case. When the case was probed by ACB, they found that the prohibition complaint was registered in the presence of Nai. Investigation into this complaint revealed that Nai had allegedly fabricated the FIR.“When the complainant refused, a case of prohibition was registered against him at Mandal police station. The complainant approached us and narrated his version of the story. During investigation we found that many of the police personnel named in the raiding party were actually not present in the raid,” said an ACB official.ACB sources said that even the ‘panch’ whose names were mentioned in the case said they hadn’t been present during the raid. “Both the complaint and the panchnama were drawn in the presence of DSP Nai who was then present at Mandal police station. Hence we had made DSP Nai an accused in the case,” an ACB source said.ACB officials said since then DSP Nai had been on the run. “His anticipatory bail was rejected first by the sessions court and then by the Gujarat high court. We arrested him on Monday evening and we are interrogating him to get further details of the case,” said an ACB official.
