Major markets in Ahmedabad remained closed on Saturday to pay condolence to the martyrs of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Pulwama. Traders also organised prayer meetings, candle marches, and public meetings in the memory of martyrs. A number of traders organisations had, on Friday, given a call for bandh on Saturday. As a result of which all the major wholesale and retail markets in the eastern part of the city remained closed. Traders from textile, gold and jewelry, cutlery, automobile accessories, smartphones, optical gadgets, grains, furniture, edible oil, electrical goods, footwear, machinery, sweets, and farsans put down the shutters of their shops. Major markets that remained closed include Maskati Market Kapad Mahajan, New Cloth Market, Shree Choksi Mahajan, Dhalgarwad Kapad Mahajan, Amdavad Pipe Fitting Wholesale Merchants Association, Relief Road Electronics Association, Panchkuwa Market, Nava Madhupura Market, Juna Madhupura Market, Kabutarkhana Sindhi Commercial Market, Edible Oil Association, and Mirzapur Automobile Spare Parts Market. Many jewellers along CG Road and in Satellite area did not open their shops. "It was a total bandh. The attack by the enemy on brave security jawans of the country is an act of betrayal, which we will never be able to forget. We want to give a message to family members of martyrs that entire country is with them in this time of grief," said Naresh Sharma, honorary secretary of Maskati Market Kapad Mahajan. Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry had organized a condolence – cum- prayer meet, which was attended by the officials of Indian Army. Candle marches were organized in the evening, in which thousands of citizens and traders participated. Mukesh Sheth, president of Ratanpole Mahajan said that the bandh was voluntary. This indicates that there is anger among the masses against terrorist attacks. They want the Government of India to act against the terrorists. Ashish Jhaveri, media convener of Amdavad Vepari Mahajan said that the mahajan had given a call for bandh in order to pay homage to the martyrs. The response it got from all the associations is indicative of the feelings of the business community regarding the attack on our jawans. Traders said that it is because of the vigil by the jawans on the border that all the citizens are able to stay peacefully in the country and traders able to conduct their business without any fear of favour and so it is a moral duty to support jawans in such a situation.
