'Berojgars' take on 'chowkidars'

We are prefixing our names on social media with the word 'berojgar' so that everyone knows how many youths in the country are unemployed." So, unemployed youths between 18 and 30 years old have decided to mention they are 'berojgar' on their social media accounts to show the severity of this issue. The 24-year-old said, "We voted for Modi because he had promised jobs to 2 crore people but nothing happened. Due to lack of job opportunities, I worked as a clerk in an industrial area for Rs 6,000 a month. Even as the prime minister, senior ministers and BJP supporters prefixed the word 'chowkidar' to their social media identities, unemployed youths in the State began fixing the word 'berojgar' (unemployed) before their names on social media.Vaishnodevi resident Ravi Adrola, who has a BCom degree, has been unemployed for the past three years. He said, "My father passed away when I completed my graduation. Despite financial crunch, I opted to study further so that I could secure a better job. I completed my post-graduation in 2009 but have still not got a job worthy of my degree. Due to lack of job opportunities, I worked as a clerk in an industrial area for Rs 6,000 a month. I was laid off after GST was implemented. I am ready to do a courier boy's job if I get one."The campaign got a boost afterleader Hardik Patel, who joined the Congress last week, changed his Twitter name to 'Berojgar'. The Patidar quota spearhead has been attacking the Modi government over lack of jobs in the country and unemployment growing in the five years of Modi administration. Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS) and Congress supporters followed suit and began prefixing their social media identities with the word 'Berojgar'.Soon, the engagement increased and 'Berojgar' began trending with more and more youths began adding the new nomenclature to their Twitter handles.Hardik Patel said, "Modi misled people by making fake promises regarding employment promises. Now, he is calling himself a chowkidar. So, unemployed youths between 18 and 30 years old have decided to mention they are 'berojgar' on their social media accounts to show the severity of this issue."NSUI general secretary Bhavik Solanki told Mirror, "Our PM promised to give 2 crore employment. Not only has he failed to provide the employment promised, the number of jobs are decreasing by the year. We are prefixing our names on social media with the word 'berojgar' so that everyone knows how many youths in the country are unemployed." GPCC chief spokesperson Manish Doshi said, "Employment is at 45-year low. Unemployment and corruption is high in Gujarat. Businesses have been affected badly due to demonetisation and GST which has resulted in unemployment of many. We are contesting and countering BJP based on specific issues. So, we extend our support to the people's movement of 'berojgar'."Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Main bhi chowkidar' campaign on Monday drew more ridicule from Congress presidentand party leaderVadra.Raising Rafale issue, Rahul Gandhi said Modi was attempting to convert the whole country into chowkidar after being "caught", while Priyanka said chowkidar are only for rich.
