Respite from heat as mercury drops by 5°C across the Gujarat

Unseasonal rains brought relief for several as the temperatures climbed down on Wednesday. After 1.8 mm rainfall on Tuesday, there was a considerable drop in the temperatures across the state. Since Monday, the maximum temperature was hovering above 40°C across many stations. On Wednesday, it was observed to be below 37°C at all the stations in the state. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is an induced cyclonic circulation over west Rajasthan and its neighbouring area, extending up to 1.5 km above mean sea level. As a result of this, some parts of the state are likely to have partly cloudy skies. Isolated places received rainfall on Wednesday, including some places in Saurashtra. Ahmedabad witnessed a partly cloudy and relatively pleasant day. The maximum temperature recorded was 34.6°C, which was five degree below normal. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 38°C, while the minimum temperature is expected to be 24°C. No major fluctuations are expected to occur in the maximum temperature in the next 24 hours. Thereafter, there will be a rise 2-3°C in maximum temperature. Across the state, most of the stations reported a temperature below 37°C. The highest maximum temperature was recorded at Rajkot, at 36.3°C. The lowest minimum temperature was recorded at 19.3°C at Mahuva.
