A day after DNA reported that a vehicle stolen five years ago continued to generate traffic violation challans, the Ahmedabad traffic department traced the stolen vehicle to Paldi-Ellisbridge road. And it took them mere hours. However, the woman driving the 'stolen' vehicle said she bought it from a police auction. As per senior traffic police officers, the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner directed DCP AG Chauhan (Traffic, east) to track down the stolen vehicle. By analysing e-challans and through CCTV footage, he found that all the challans were issued at Paldi and Kalgi crossroad between 9 to 10.30 am. So on Tuesday morning, a two teams were deployed at Paldi and Kalgi crossroads and told to look out for a vehicle bearing the number plate GJ.27.F.7078. They detained a woman, called her parents and a team was even sent to their home in Vatva. "The father said they bought the un-geared scooter in 2015 at an auction held by Vatva GIDC police station," said DCP Chauhan. "We have taken the documents from the present owner and are probing how the vehicle ended up in the auction." The vehicle originally belonged to Maninagar resident Abhishek Kadhiya. He has been receiving traffic challans since October 2018, though five years ago, he had reported that the two-wheeler was stolen. Despite written application to the Ahmedabad police commissioner, no action was taken to nab the thief, nor trace the current rider until DNA reported the matter.
