Ahmedabad: Man poses as deputy superintendent, asks for petty favours, held

A man has been arrested for impersonating as a deputy superintendent of police (DySP) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Primary investigation revealed that the accused was posing as DySP just for fun. The accused roamed around in Bhavnagar, Surendranagar and Ahmedabad in the uniform and asked favours from random people. Further investigation revealed that the accused is only 10th pass and had no other intention to commit a crime. He impersonated as a cop, to feel powerful, but people began to identify him as deputy superintendent.

A man has been arrested for impersonating as a deputy superintendent of police (DySP) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Primary investigation revealed that the accused was posing as DySP just for fun. The accused identified as Dinesh Maheriya is a resident of Surendranagar. On Saturday morning Dinesh was arrested from Memco Crossroad by the HL Jebaliye, police sub-inspector of Shaherkotda on the bases of suspicion. While interrogating the accused, it was revealed that he belonged to the Kherwara village of Surendranagar and he has impersonating as deputy superintendent from the past one year. The accused roamed around in Bhavnagar, Surendranagar and Ahmedabad in the uniform and asked favours from random people. Further investigation revealed that the accused is only 10th pass and had no other intention to commit a crime. He asked small favours from those around, but never extorted or looted money from anyone. VD Vala, inspector of Shaherkodta police station, stated that, "The accused was roaming around in uniform for the sake of fun and asked people to drop him from one location to the other. Apart from that no other favours were demanded by him. He impersonated as a cop, to feel powerful, but people began to identify him as deputy superintendent. He continued the act and reached Ahmedabad. Till now, no one has come forward to file a formal complaint, but further investigation will reveal more about the case." Case File According to the police, the accused posed as a cop had no other intention to commit a crime. He asked small favours from those around, but never extorted or looted money from anyone.
