Girls face cellphone ban in Gujarat village

Members of the Thakor community in Gujarat's Banaskantha district have barred unmarried women from carrying a mobile phone, calling it a "social evil". The diktat was recently passed by residents of 12 villages in Dantiwada tehsil, said sources. According to the order, if a young woman is caught using mobile phones, her father will be held responsible. We only talked of keeping young girls from mobile phones. We never said anything about our boys and girls marrying in other community," said a Thakor community member, wishing not to be identified.
