Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation cracks down on shops with uncontrolled parking

Even as the crackdown on the manufacturers, sellers and users of plastic products is underway, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has begun a crackdown on shops, where parking of vehicles on roads is obstructing normal vehicular traffic. According to an official, around 16 shops and establishments have been sealed on Friday. The drive was carried out in Nehrunagar – Sahjanand College belt and Gujarat University Bus stand – Memnagar Fire Station belt in Navrangpura ward of West Zone of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). Even as the crackdown on the manufacturers, sellers and users of plastic products is underway, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has begun a crackdown on shops, where parking of vehicles on roads is obstructing normal vehicular traffic. According to an official, around 16 shops and establishments have been sealed on Friday. Civic authorities have also removed a part of the construction of a temple near Paldi, as it caused obstruction. The drive was carried out in Nehrunagar – Sahjanand College belt and Gujarat University Bus stand – Memnagar Fire Station belt in Navrangpura ward of West Zone of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). "As the road in front of these shops is used for parking of vehicles, creating an obstacle in the movement of vehicles. Visitors in these shops park vehicles are being sealed. Any attempt to break the seal or to enter the closed premises, will be considered as a violation of the law and actions will be taken accordingly," said a note from AMC. An official of AMC said that these commercial premises not regularised under Gujarat Regularization of Unauthorized Developments Act (GRUDA) – 2011. It was observed that along the stretch from Sahajanand College to Nehrunagar, vehicles are being parked on the road by the visitors who come to these shops or eateries. The official said that the shopkeepers were warned that such an action was imminent if corrective measures are not taken. In this regard, Chaitanya Shah, deputy estate manager of West Zone of AMC said, "Notices were issued to submit documents (whether the place used for parking vehicles was authorized) and a deadline of ten days was given to them. It was only after the deadline expiry the action has been taken." Illegal rooftop sheds and other encroachments on roads and AMC properties were also removed.
