Depression may bring heavy rainfall in Gujarat

The weather office has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the state, especially the areas in south Gujarat and Saurashtra, during the next two-three days. The heavy rainfall is expected under the influence of a low-pressure area, which is likely to form over the east-central Arabian Sea and adjoining areas of the northeast Arabian Sea and south Gujarat coast by Friday. The weather office has clarified that the conditions are favourable for the movement of the system west-northwestwards and then intensify into a depression during the subsequent 48 hours. The system combined with an east-west trough from Saurashtra to east-central Bay of Bengal is likely to cause heavy rainfall across several districts in the state. The city on Thursday recorded a maximum temperature of 33.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 25.4 degrees Celsius.

According to Indian Meteorological Department’s forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in the districts of south Gujarat and Saurashtra namely Bharuch, Surat, Gir Somnath, Navsari, Valsad, Rajkot, Junagadh, Jamnagar, Porbandar, and Amreli, during the next three-four days. The weather office has clarified that the rainfall in the state will start reducing from Monday. As far as the city is concerned, the weather office has predicted, generally, the cloudy sky along with chances of light rainfall during the next 3-4 days. The maximum temperature in the city which has already started moving northwards due to the bright sunshine prevalent in the city and its adjoining areas will also start declining due to the expected clouding. The city on Thursday recorded a maximum temperature of 33.8 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 25.4 degrees Celsius. The city also recorded a rainfall of 1.8 mm during the past 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Thursday. The weather office has predicted that the maximum temperature in the city will be around 33 degrees Celsius, whereas the minimum temperature would be around 24-25 degrees Celsius.
