Ahmedabad woman uploads minor girl’s photo with Rs 25,000 ‘price tag’ on Facebook

In what can be termed as an inhuman and shameful act. A 32-year-old woman, who is a resident of Gota locality in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, allegedly shared on Facebook a minor girl’s photograph along with a “price tag” and her mobile number. The Cyber Crime Cell of the Ahmedabad Police, after receiving a complaint in connection with the incident, arrested the accused, identified as Radha Singh, from her residence on Friday.

A 32-year-old woman, who is a resident of Gota locality in Gujarat’s Ahmedabad, allegedly shared on Facebook a minor girl’s photograph along with a “price tag” and her mobile number. The Cyber Crime Cell of the Ahmedabad Police, after receiving a complaint in connection with the incident, arrested the accused, identified as Radha Singh, from her residence on Friday.

Police said that Singh had allegedly added the complainant’s minor daughter’s photograph to her Facebook status update. Singh had written Rs 2,500 over the photograph and had also mentioned the girl’s mobile number. Police further stated that Singh had also sent WhatsApp obscene messages to the complainant, according to a report by The Indian Express.  

After receiving the complaint, the police, with the help of technical surveillance, traced Singh to her residence in Gota locality of Ahmedabad and arrested her. She hails from Madhya Pradesh’s Morena district.  

Accused reveals reason behind deplorable act

“Upon interrogation, the accused revealed that earlier she used to live in Delhi and four years ago, she moved to Ahmedabad. Initially, the accused stayed in a paying guest facility and came in touch with the victim’s father which developed into a friendship. Of late, the accused had a tiff with the minor’s father and in revenge, she posted the picture of her on social media,” the report quoted a police officer as saying.

Police have registered a case against Singh under the Information Technology (IT) Act and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
