Significant progress is being observed in the four-lane rail overbridge near CIMS hospitals in Sola.

On Sunday, the Rs 59 crore rail overbridge saw a unique construction method involving prefabricated structures like the 392-tonne open web steel girder thru-tress being assembled and rolled over the railway portion of the bridge.

The operation was completed in nearly 2.5 hours. prefabricated structures will now be placed over the railway portion to complete the bridge.

The bridge construction will be over in four months and will be open for public use, according to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) officials.

The 673-meter long four-lane bridge is being built over the Ahmedabad-Viramgam broad gauge line and will connect the 100 feet Hebatpur Road in Thaltej.

More than 90 per cent of the bridge`s approach on both sides of the railway line has been completed. The design has been approved by IIT-Mumbai and railway`s official design agency RITES.

AMC officials claim that the railways had cooperated with an 82-day work-plan, within which they had adjusted the train passage time.

"Normally rail overbridges take a lot of time sometimes even years owning to involvement of multiple agencies and differences over design. This is an efficient way of functioning. This particular construction model will be replicated for all upcoming rail overbridges in the city," adds the AMC official.
