On July 8, Halpati sustained serious injuries after his motorcycle skidded at Changa village. He was admitted to New Civil Hospital (NCH) in Surat. “On July 12, Halpati was declared brain-dead by a team of doctors at NCH and his family members gave their consent to donate his organs,” said Nilesh Mandlewala, director of Donate Life, an NGO working for organ donation in Surat. “We then contacted the Institute of Kidney Diseases and Research Centre (IKDRC) and CIMS Hospital to know their requirement.
