HC seeks reply on Kashi cleanliness

ALLAHABAD: Allahabad High Court on Tuesday directed the Varanasi district administration, Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) and Varanasi Nagar Nigam to file their respective replies in respect of cleanliness in Varanasi, which is the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi Hearing a PIL filed by one Vinay Kumar Chaudhary and three others, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Dilip Babasaheb Bhosale and Justice Suneet Kumar also issued notice to a private agency, which has been assigned the task to keep Varanasi city clean and directed it to file its reply in this case.The court fixed March 20 as the next date of hearing.The counsel appearing for the petitioner had drawn attention of the court, saying that because of uncleanliness in the entire Varanasi city, particularly in the vicinity of Kashi Vishwanath Temple, the percentage of tourists visiting the city is gradually going down.He pointed out that for attracting the tourists, the district administration should keep the city clean.In addition to the above, the court wanted to know as to why dairies be not moved outside the city limits in Varanasi.The court, therefore, directed the Uttar Pradesh governments counsel and also the counsel appearing for Nagar Nigam and VDA to file a counter affidavit and also their stand on constituting a committee of officers of concerned departments to formulate a scheme for making Varanasi clean.
