ALLAHABAD: As the district administration gets busy with civil construction for the forthcoming Kumbh-2019 , Allahabad’s car and motorcycle owners have to bear the brunt in a different way—incurring huge repair bills The widening and construction of roads in the city is proving to be a bane for people driving cars and motorcycles on these roads, who have to shell out hefty sums for frequent servicing of these vehicles after being driven on poor roads.Many commuters in the city said that being driven on uneven roads makes these vehicles require regular maintenance “Most streets in Allahabad have been dug up for widening or construction and we have no other alternative to but to drive on these roads daily to reach various destinations” said Vinay Mehrotra Mehrotra said that due to the bad conditions of the roads, SUVs develop technical snags and as a result he has to consult a mechanic frequently.Garage owners said that there has been an increase in the number of customers coming to them for maintenance.Owner of a garage on GT Road, Sanjay Prajapati , said, “Most vehicle owners complain that their vehicles were damaged while driving on potholed roads, while others say that their vehicles met with road accidents while being driven on dug up roads’.“I have stopped driving my car to go to my shop and have started using my scooter as I cannot afford to visit the garage so frequently,” said Geetesh Kapoor, a store owner.“I have been facing troubles to reach my shop, which is situated at Lukerganj Road and the connecting streets are also in a sorry state. As I want to reach my shop on time, I have no other option but to take alternative routes,” he added.Manish Mehrotra, another city-based businessman, said “The pathetic condition of roads have increased our expenses as low-floor vehicles either develop a snag or get a dent while being driven on potholed roads. Some commuters are also developing orthopedic problems due to driving on these bumpy roads.”Automobile experts said that most four-wheeler drivers usually fail to control their on uneven roads and as a result the vehicles then develop various sorts of problems.In areas like Lukerganj, Stanley Road, Chakia, and adjoining areas, drivers need to be very cautious while driving as potholes as it can prove to be dangerous.Traffic police authorities have made an appeal to commuters to drive slowly and claimed that vehicle owners must maintain speed limits on potholed roads or it could be fatal.
