ALLAHABAD: A day after Bharatiya Janta Party BJP ) corporator Pawan Kesari was shot dead by two unidentified motorcycle-borne miscreants, Phulpur town remained tense and security was beefed up in the area by deploying extra force on Wednesday.The 35-year-old corporator from Phulpur Nagar Panchayat was a close aide of deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya.He was also the former general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM).Many markets in Phulpur town remained closed as a mark of protest against the killing and local BJP leaders demanded that police nab the miscerants at the earliest. Allahabad zone ) SN Sabat said, “We have constituted three police teams to probe the case. The exact motive behind the killing is yet to be ascertained but the police are working on two angles including an old rivalry.”“Adequate police forces, including personnel of RAF and PAC, have been deployed in Phulpur to maintain law and order. The cremation was conducted at Daraganj ghat in Allahabad amid tight security arrangements” he added.Sabat also said that Kesari was shot dead when he was on his way back to Lochanganj after visiting a dhaba located at Seikhpur Taqia village along with a friend Arif.While he was on his way, two unidentified armed and masked miscreants intercepted them and sprayed them with bullets. Both Keshari Arif sustained gunshot wounds.Police said the corporator was first taken to a nearby hospital where doctors later referred him to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital. However, doctors at SRN Hospital declared him brought dead.Arif was also admitted at a hospital where he is undergoing treatment.Kesari’s post mortem was conducted late Tuesday night and the body was first sent to his native village and then brought at Daraganj for the final rites.The Phulpur police have detained over a dozen persons for interrogation.
