ALLAHABAD: Union minister of minority affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said there has been an increase in the number of aspirants selected in civil services from the minority community over the last two years after the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government ended the discriminatory treatment meted out to them.In city to drum up support for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections as part of the BJP’s ‘Sampark se Samarthan’ campaign on Sunday, the Union minister said, “Isse pehle jyada se jyada do, char, che naujawan ladke, ladkiyan alpsankhyak samaj ke chune jaate the. Pichle do salo mein....pichli bar 126 UPSC mein chune gaye aur is baar 132 chune gaye. Azadi ke baad se sabse bada record hain. (Earlier just two to six aspirants from the minority community were selected in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). Last year, 126 candidates were selected while in 2017 132 were selected, which is a record after Independence).” Naqvi said, “We recognised their talent and helped in ending the unjust treatment meted out to them. They got an opportunity to show their ability and were thus selected in large numbers on the basis of merit.”
