Woman, two kids burnt for dowry by in-laws in Allahabad

ALLAHABAD: A woman and her two minor sons were allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws in Koilati, Bhanjanpur village in Manda police area on early Friday morning. Geeta’s mother accused her daughter’s husband and inlaws of harassing her daughter for dowry as they had been constantly demanding a bike, gold chain and ring.“Being a widow, I was not able to fulfill the demands of Geeta’s husband and inlaws. They were constantly harassing her after marriage and also threatened her of dire consequences if we failed to meet the demand,” Lalti told police. The police have detained three persons, including her mother in-law, regarding the incident.The deceased have been identified as Geeta Devi , 28, Kanha, 3, and a two-month infant, all residents of Bhanjanpur.The deceased were tied with a cot before being set ablaze, police said.Upon being altered by the villagers, senior police officials, including IG (Allahabad range) Ramit Sharma rushed to the spot and sent the bodies for postmortem.The IG told TOI that a case under section 498A, 304 B, 302 of IPC and 3/4 of Dowry Act has been lodged against Shiv Bahadur (husband), Raj Kumar (father in law), Ramrati (mother in-law), Ram Bahadur (brother in-law) and Meena (sister in law) with Manda police station in this connection.While Ramrati, Ram Bahadur and Meena have been detained, Raj Kumar and Shiv Bahadur managed to escape.Sharma added that the mother of the deceased, Lalti Devi , a resident of Mirzapur, told police she was informed by the villagers that burnt bodies of all the three were lying on a cot and floor.Police said that the incident took place around 3 am and locals spotted the bodies at around 6 am and informed the police.Police said Geeta Devi was married to Shiv Bahadur about five years ago and had two children.
