Allahabad: Railway colony to have a new look this Kumbh

These walls have been painted with tourists spots of the city like Anand Bhawan, Kusuro Bagh, Sangam etc.“We have given our buildings for the paintings so that this not only add up to the beauty of the city but also represent the rich heritage of our city and the country as a whole”, said Chief Public Relation Officer (CPRO) NCR, Gaurav Krishna Bansal. These include names like, Subhash Chandra Bose, Jai Prakash Narayan, Lal Bhadur Shahstri etc.However, families residing in these houses or for that matter several of the school going kids who commute over this ROB every day complain of not being able to identify some of the portraits, a fact that could jeopardize the entire exercise.“My house looks good and many of my friends come to see the new painting on the side wall but since the ‘uncle’ who painted it did not mentioned the name of the portrait, I am unable to gather further information about the person in the painting”, said a class 4th student of one of houses of the colony, Naveen Kumar Singh.Likewise, authorities have also painted the outer walls of the houses of Balaipur colony of railways. ALLAHABAD: At a time when the entire Sangam city is being decked up to welcome lakhs of pilgrims in Kumbh 2019 , authorities of Prayagraj Mela Pradhikaran and Allahabad division of North Central Railways have joined hands to add to the beatification of the city.For the purpose, several of the official quarters of railway colonies in the city have been transformed into tourist destination courtesy project ‘paint my city’ undertaken by the Mela Pradhikaran.Among large numbers of houses in these colonies, which runs parallel to the main Delhi-Howrah railway track, Pradhikaran has focused on quarters which faces the main roads.Quarters facing the Railway Over Bridge ROB) of Panni Ki Tanki or those at the Nawab Yusuf Road of the city, have been picked by the authorities and have been painted on different themes.“These quarters are located on the extremely busy routes, which would be used by lakhs of pilgrims coming to Kumbh next year and we wanted that those coming to the city should be able to get a glimpse of the city and the important places, what if they are able to spare much time and see for themselves these beautiful places”, said Kumbh Mela Adhikari, Vijay Kiran Anand.For the purpose, the six blocks for the colony which faces the Pani Ki Tanki ROB, have been painted with different patterns of bright colours and the three sides, of each of the block, has been painted with a huge portrait of renowned personalities of the country.
