Ban on entry of heavy vehicles in Allahabad from January 1

Mela officials have also directed officials of public works department and other departments like power and Jal Nigam to complete all preparation for parking slots to be set up at the Mela ground.

ALLAHABAD: The police department has drawn a new traffic plan for the city to ease the chaos on roads in the run up to the Kumbh-2019 and it would be implemented January 1 onwards.Traffic inspector, Rakesh Pratap Singh, said, “Heavy vehicles like trucks and trailers would not be allowed into city limits. Vehicles with special permits passes would be allowed to come up to areas on Allahabad’s outskirts only.” Areas like Jhunsi, Naini, Phaphamau and Dhoomanganj lie on the city’s outskirts. He also said trucks or vehicles with permits would be allowed to enter towards city’s outskirts only between 11pm and 5am.Singh said that the restrictions would be introduced at GT Jawahar and Fort Road crossing so that visitors arriving at Mela ground to take a dip in Sangam do not face any problems.Traffic police said that they were planning to make some routes one-way. The department plans to convert some routes in Jhunsi, Naini and adjoining areas into one-way streets for smooth transportation.
