Railways to run nearly 800 special trains for Kumbh Mela

ALLAHABAD: In addition to the regular trains, NCR, NR and NER will also operate 600-800 special trains during Kumbh Mela . Likewise, there would special trains on three days for these stations on all the bathing days, he added.Besides, NR and NER would also be operating special trains for Kumbh. The special trains would start operating from January 13 and continue till March 6.Chief public relations officer (CPRO), NCR, Gaurav Krishna Bansal said: “Special trains would be operated for stations mainly in three directions, i.e., Kanpur, Jhansi and Deen Dayal Upadhyay junctions. “NCR would operate six trains on regular intervals for Kanpur and stations in between, six for Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction and seven for Satna-Jhansi,” said the official. These trains would halt at all the stations between Allahabad and the destinations.

Moreover, the trains would be run not only on the five major bathing days, but two days after the festival.”These trains would be operated on Makar Sankranti (January 15), Mauni Amavasya (February 4), Basant Panchami (February 10), Maghi Purnima (February 19) and Maha Shivratri (March 5).For the first festival, Makar Sankranti, special trains would be operated on January 15, 16 and 17. “NCR would operate six trains on regular intervals for Kanpur and stations in between, six for Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction and seven for Satna-Jhansi,” said the official. Likewise, there would special trains on three days for these stations on all the bathing days, he added.Besides, NR and NER would also be operating special trains for Kumbh. Trains operated by NR would be run from Prayag or Prayag Ghat while those operated by NER would be run from Allahabad City (Rambagh) station.These would be for the pilgrims coming from Eastern UP, including Varanasi, Maruadhih, Gorakhpur and stations from Bihar, Lucknow, Faizabad, Sultanpur, etc. Along with this, six tourist special trains will be operated in different railway zones of the country for the tourists coming to participate in Kumbh Mela.Railways also plans to operate four to five special trains for transporting 5,000 NRIs from Varanasi to New Delhi.The NRIs will come to attend the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Varanasi and also visit Prayagraj to participate in Kumbh.
