A native of Sambhal district, while working as a sanitary worker, he noticed that people usually didn't like sitting next to him. For some his appearance was too dirty, for others it was his work.When he started out for work on Sunday to Kumbh Mela ground, where he has been working since October, he had no idea that by the end of the day the entire nation would be talking about him. PM Narendra Modi washed the feet of Hori Lal and four other sanitary workers, employed at Mela ground.Pyare Lal, Naresh Kumar, Chaubi, Hori Lal and Jyoti had been cleaning the area near Sangam for months. PM Modi washed their feet and felicitated them with an 'angavastram', while appreciating their efforts and dedication towards work."It was my life's most unforgettable moment," said Lal."People usually don't like to sit with safari karmcharis but the way PM honoured us cannot be explained in words," he said.Korba resident Jyoti said, "This was the first time in the history of country when a Prime Minister has honoured a sanitary worker. I had never imagined that I would one day talk to the Prime Minister. He asked me about my family."Pyare Lal, who hails from Banda, said they were summoned by their group leader two days back. "On Sunday, we were taken to the pandal in Ganga lounge. Even then, I had no idea that I would be interacting with the PM, who would wash our feet and felicitate us," he added.Chaubi, said that she did not have any words to describe her experience. "I would tell my family members and relatives about the experience once I return to my village," Chaubi said.Banda resident Naresh Kumar said, "The way the PM greeted us, washed and wiped our feet, only a warm-hearted person man could do it."
