'The Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster' actor has currently produced a musical play on Kumbh that depicts the significance of the spiritual congregation. Acting may be his forte but actor Deepraj Rana is going beyond that. "Since we decided on this play in early January, so it turned out to be virtually, a race against time," says Deepraj. "The writer used to write a few scenes, which we then used to approve and then the rehearsals would begin. During the last Maha Kumbh, I had gone with my wife on one of the important snan days.

Acting may be his forte but actor Deepraj Rana is going beyond that. 'The Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster' actor has currently produced a musical play on Kumbh that depicts the significance of the spiritual congregation. "The idea to produce this play came when a friend of mine suggested that why don’t you do something on Kumbh so that even a layman is able to understand why this religious fair is held. So we thought of staging a musical play that talks about Kumbh in detail," shares Deepraj.Deepraj Rana with Laxmi Narayan Tripathi , the head of the Kinnar Akhada (BCCL/ Pankaj Singh)Directed by actor Tarun Shukla, seen in films like 'Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi' and 'Calcutta Mail', the play has been penned by Abhay Tewari, who has scripted TV shows like 'Savdhaan India'. "Since we decided on this play in early January, so it turned out to be virtually, a race against time," says Deepraj."The writer used to write a few scenes, which we then used to approve and then the rehearsals would begin. Around 40 artists, mainly from Lucknow, have enacted in the play which is of two-and-a-half-hours duration. Our entire play, right from the rehearsals to its staging, has been documented by National Award winning filmmaker Kamal Swaroop ," adds Deepraj.Deepraj Rana with Laxmi Narayan Tripathi of the Kinnar Akahada at Kumbh (BCCL/ Pankaj Singh)The Bullet Raja actor, who hails from Prayagraj, has several fond memories of the Kumbh that he's been seeing since childhood. "I have witnessed three Kumbhs so far. What really impresses me about it is the faith. As a child, I used to see people with gathri on their head, walking, at times, barefoot, to take a dip at the Sangam. I used to wonder where they are going. During the last Maha Kumbh, I had gone with my wife on one of the important snan days. It was so crowded that we did not have to walk on our own as we were constantly pushed by the crowds. After walking upto a certain distance, we decided to call it quits. This time I did not get the chance to see much of the Kumbh, but whatever I saw was very well managed," he says.Deepraj is also excited about a new project which he is working on. "Currently I have scripted a film based on Maharajin Bua, a lady who used to perform the last rites of people at Rasoolabad Ghat in Prayagraj. She not only fought against the norms set by the society but also against nature. The film, that will go on floors by the end of this year, will be directed by Leena Tandon, associate director of 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobara'. We have approached Sonakshi Sinha for the role of the protagonist, who has liked the script," he says.
