While the world celebrates the 3rd International Yoga day in their own unique ways, NYOOOZ Allahabad met this not-so-popular 96-year-old Yogi in Allahabad, who has cured diseases like cancer, leprosy, infertility, Diabetes and HIV through Yoga and Ayurveda. By Saumya Mishra

Add another name to the list of unsung heroes on the occasion of the 3rd International Yoga day and meet Yogi Narmada Prasad Mishra, who lives in Naini area of Allahabad and has cured deadly diseases like HIV, Leprosy, Cancer, spondylitis and several others.

A followers whose leprosy got cured by Yoga

At 96, he still practices and teaches yoga to all his students, along with his sons, daughter and grandchildren. Yogi Narmada,  started practicing yoga at the age of 10. He has practiced and taught the art in various ashrams in Delhi, Noida, Kolkata and Allahabad.

Bones like an iron rod, the 96-year-old yogi has never taken a pill of an allopathic medicine in his life, and claims to cure any (by any he meant any) disease through regulated yoga asanas and self-made Ayurveda medicines.

His followers believe in his teachings and follow every word he says.

When asked if he is the Allahabadi Baba Ramdev, he said, “Baba Ramdev is not really a yogi, he teaches wrong asanas”. An event was organized by the Narmada Yoga training centre, owned by the Yogi himself, where a decent number of people, majorly, youngsters turned out to demonstrate yoga in front of city people and SSP PHQ Jugal Kishor Tiwari, who was also a part of the drizzling morning Yoga day customs.

SSP Jugal Kishor Tiwari

Jugal Kishor Tiwari said that Yogi Narmada Prasad Mishra is an inspirational figure for all and when a person could be so strong and away from diseases at that age, youngsters should definitely learn from him. Narmada Prasad Mishra’s son, Nitish Mishra, who takes care of the Narmada Yoga training centre is the 3rd generation of this family of ‘Karma-yogis’.

“Once, someone hit my father with an iron rod on head, nothing happened except a dent on his skull, not even a scratch, his bones are next to unbreakable”, said his son Nitish. The six generations of this karma-yogi-family has always imparted knowledge to the needy but has never taken any financial benefit from the government for their great work.

Their Ayurvedic shop in Naini is crooked, but Narmada Prasad Mishra always has a listener at his door to hear him narrate interesting stories of the unbelievable power of yoga.

According to Nitish, Yogi Narmada never commercialized his yoga, and hence could never earn financial profits from his art. When the SSP shook hands with the 96-year-old yogi, he was taken aback by the firmness of the yogi’s hold. A large number of people between the age group of 10-45 regularly learn Yoga from Yogi Narmada and Nitish in Naini. Nitish also provides home-based personalized yoga training to Allahabad city residents.
