Lawyer booked for stealing colleague’s mobile phone

Aurangabad: The city police has booked a lawyer on charges of stealing a cellphone that belonged to his colleague.The alleged theft of took place in March 2017 on the court premises. He admitted purchasing it from the suspect lawyer.The police later summoned lawyer Jadhav for collecting his cellphone, but he refused to take it back demanding that a theft case be registered and the accused lawyer be arrested. The police had only registered a missing complaint.Then, five months back, the cybercrime branch of the city police tracked the cellphone and rounded up a person who possessed the cellphone. It was after making rounds of the police station for several months, the complainant on Friday reached out to the commissioner of police Yashasvi Yadav and narrated the tale.Perturbed by the facts mentioned in the lawyers complaint, Yadav immediately pulled up Vedantnagar police for refusing to register a theft case against the suspect lawyer despite having a considerable proof.Area police inspector Anil Adhe said, “The suspect lawyer, who allegedly stole the cellphone last year, has been identified and will soon be arrested.” The incident has left the lawyers fraternity red-faced, with some of them mooting to take up the issue with the district bar council proposing action against the suspect for shaming the fraternity.As per the complaint lodged by 44-year-old lawyer Pravin Dajiba Jadhav, a resident of Pethe Nagar, Bhavsingh Pura in the city, his mobile phone was stolen from district and sessions court premises on March 27, 2017, following which he reached out to the Vedantnagar police station for lodging a complaint against the lawyer he suspected of stealing his cellphone.Much to his awe, the then police inspector in-charge of the police station refused to register a theft case citing that the police are not interested in brawl of lawyers.
