MLA demands assistance for Aurangabad riot victims

“Since the citizens realised that riots do not help anyone, the violence was brought under control soon. Aurangabad: Aurangabad central MLA Imtiyaz Jaleel raised the riots issue in the legislative assembly on Tuesday, demanding that the government immediately provide financial assistance to the people who lost their means of livelihood.The old city was rocked by communal violence on May 11, resulting in the death of two people and losses to the tune of over Rs 100 crore.In a statement issued on Tuesday, Jaleel said he raised the issue as point of information and asked the chief minister the reasons for the delay in announcing compensation for the families of the two people who lost their lives and for owners of about 60 shops that were burnt down by mobs.The MLA said that he told the House that the riot was instigated by vested interests who wanted to draw political mileage. However, the shopkeepers who had no role in the riot lost everything and are now waiting for compensation.”He also asked the chief minister why the enquiry into the riots has not started despite an assurance by him.The government, in its written reply to a question raised by him and other MLAs related to the Aurangabad riots, said ,“The enquiry into the riots is going on and so far 69 rioters, whose identity has been disclosed and against whom there is enough evidence, have been arrested.”A total of 17 cases have been registered in different police stations against the rioters.Expressing regret, Jaleel said the government refused to accept that police did not act swiftly to control the mobs.
