We take up environmental activities like cleaning streets and seedball rolling. I have been managing my household waste through in-house composting. I have been reusing things for several years now. I thought I could share my experiences over video,” Patil told TOI.Patil shot the video to explain to viewers how to go about waste segregation at source. He also shows how composting organic waste could be done in earthen pots. His video explains how plastic bottles could be turned into decorative pieces, reducing waste. The five-and-a-half minute video is shot indoors. Patil’s narration is in Marathi. The video is available on YouTube under the name ‘Saveprakriti’.When the Patils recently shifted to a newly built residential society at Chikalthana, near the airport, Patil discussed solid waste management of the society with the builder. The builder arranged a talk session with all occupants of the society, and Patil explained to his neighbours how waste could be segregated. “This helped the 20-odd families in Nabhraj Nadanwan Society to learn about waste management.Rajesh Botule, the builder, distributed the paint buckets that were used while the building was being painted to residents, who now store wet and dry waste separately in these. The remaining buckets were painted and used for potted plants.
