AMC puts the ball in state’s court on pipeline project

(Shomu_Done)Aurangabad: The general body (GB) of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has postponed the decision to re-allot the parallel pipeline project to Aurangabad City Water Utility Company Limited (ACWUCL) until its next meeting on September 4.Mayor Nandkumar Ghodele said AMC will take a decision on whether to award the contract to a private firm after the state government gives a written assurance to provide Rs 289 crore for the project.The special GB meet was called on Monday to take a decision on whether to award the pipeline project to ACWUCL.The AMC, had scrapped the project and terminated the contract with ACWUCL in October 2016, after disputes emerged between the two parties.In a letter written from the private company to the municipal commissioner on July 4, the company requested the revival of the project.Subsequently, a resolution was placed before the GB to give a second chance to the company to complete the project on a public-private partnership with new clauses.Naser Siddiqui and Bhausaheb Jagtap of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Congress Party respectively, registered their opposition to the resolution.
