In the absence of humour, tolerance levels down, says HC

AURANGABAD: The Aurangabad bench of Bombay high court, while recently allowing a criminal application filed by five men from Parbhani district challenging registration of an offence against them by Nanded police for "hurting religious feelings", observed, "In India, due to absence of humour, tolerance levels have gone down shockingly. Four friends - Kundalik Deshmukh (32), Ravi Sawant (34), Gajanan Hendge (32) and Subhash Javde (27) - had liked his post. Ganesh Pensalwar (27) of Nanded took offence and wrote some angry replies before lodging a complaint with Vazirabad police station in Nanded under section 295A read with 34 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings) of IPC. "In 2016, one of the five applicants, Ashok Deshmukh (27), had posted a picture on Facebook of Lord Parshuram and the character Parshya from the movie 'Sairat', asking friends which of the two they liked more. "The bench comprising Justices T V Nalawade and Vibha Kankanwadi observed, "Those few people who wish to gain political mileage by raising such issues to create a rift in society by exploiting the over-sensitive have created problems for society.
