Aurangabad: A 34-year old man was stabbed to death in the Harsul area on Sunday evening following a spat over a trivial issue on a WhatsApp group.The man, who sustained multiple stab wounds, was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries, leading to serious tension in the area under the limits of the Harsul police station.The deceased, identified as Moin Pathan, was in to real-estate apart from being affiliated to a political party. Recently, he was also at loggerheads with members of the Patel clan over a piece of land and the putting up of banners in the area.The preliminary investigation has revealed that Moin got in to a spat on a WhatsApp group with members of the Patel clan over the registration of voter ID cards during the first half of the day on Sunday and it resulted in a heated argument with some of the local youths who were members of the WhatsApp group. Losing his cool, Moin allegedly showered abuses on the Patel community of Harsul area.It was around 2pm when Moin and his supporters came face to face with some youths belonging to the Patel clan at Harsul ground, where a camp for the registration of voter IDs was underway and the two groups had a brawl. Moin managed to overpower the youths from the opposite side, who ended up retreating from there.Seething with anger that they had to retreat, a group of about half a dozen Patel youths launched a manhunt for Moin and managed to find him in the Beribagh area at around 6pm. He was then brutally attacked and stabbed multiple times in full public glare.Soon after the incident, the suspects, all of them in their 20s, managed to flee from the spot. The police formed several teams to track them down. Sources said that in the evening, Moin’s family lodged a complaint naming 14 accused belonging to the Patel clan for their alleged involvement in the murder.When contacted, Harsul police station’s senior inspector Maneesh Kalyankar confirmed the murder and said that a manhunt has been launched for the key suspects involved in the crime.
