AURANGABAD: A lewd comment from a former criminal-turned-police informer triggered a group of seven eunuchs to ransack Osmanpura police station in the wee hours of Thursday.The eunuchs had unleashed such violence in the police station that additional force had to be summoned to bring the situation under control. They were arrested and produced before a court which remanded them in judicial custody.On Wednesday afternoon, Shivaji Adhe (26), a resident of Choudhari Nagar in Chikalthana area, went to drop his relative at the railway station. Before leaving the station, a man identified as Vijay Vinayak Gaikwad , along with two others, waylaid him and robbed him of Rs 1000 cash and his mobile phone around 3.30pm.Taking cognizance of the scuffle, the policemen at the spot rounded up the suspects and took them to Vedantnagar police station. Later, both the complainant and the suspects were shifted to Osmanpura police station around 9.30pm.Senior inspector at Osmanpura police station Hemant Kadam told TOI, "Realising that an offence was being registered for robbery, suspect Vijay called his kin, who is an eunuch , to the police station."Sources close to the police said that Vijay's kin created a scene at the police station to prevent the registration of an offence. A former criminal, currently working as a police informer, passed a lewd comment which offended the eunuch so much so that she summoned her fellow eunuchs to the police station on Thursday midnight. She hurled expletives at the policemen on duty and even accosted them.The eunuchs went on a rampage-throwing the furniture and even beaking the glass tables. They even went after the informer who ran to the first floor and plunged from the balcony. He landed on a seized vehicle parked at the premises of the police station. His plunge from the balcony broke the windshields of the vehicle. The eunuchs also accosted the duty officer.The rampage went on for two to three others before the additional forces arrived and took stock of the situation. A complaint was lodged by head constable Shahadev Palve based on which the seven eunuchs were arrested under sections 353 (using criminal force to deter a government employee from performing his duty), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant), 143 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of trust) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.Taking serious congnizance of the incident, senior police authorities have sought a detailed report from the police station.
