Mumbai wins west zone table tennis competition

“The west zone-level table tennis championship witnessed participation of university teams from five states. The teams from these four universities will now play at the national level inter-university table tennis championship for girls, to be held in the near future, said an official release. “It not only helps in improving thinking abilities but also sharpens the conscience of the individual,” she said. Aurangabad: Mumbai University emerged as the winner, while Savitribai Phule Pune University claimed second position in the west zone-level inter-university table tennis championship for girls held at Jalgaon, located around 150km from here, on Friday.The Kavayitri Bahinabai Chaudhari North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon successfully organized the event, which saw participation from players of the western zone of the country.Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, Surat secured third place in the prestigious event, while Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore finished in fourth position. By securing the top two positions, the teams from Maharashtra left their imprint on the event,” said organizers.Phenaj Chipiya, from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University, bagged the award for best all-round player in the tournament, while Ananya Basar and Shrushti Hilangade, both representing Mumbai University, received the best aggressive player and the best defensive player award respectively, it was said.Speaking as the chief guest during the prize distribution ceremony, local MLA from Jalgaon Smita Wagh said that sports have a great impact on personality development.
