Removed by AMC in Oct, illegal cables resurface

In the citywide drive, the illegally installed cables were removed and confiscated by the AMC. However, the cables have resurfaced at several places including Jalna Road and neighbouring flyovers.These cables run over streetlights, electricity poles and buildings at numerous spots. The squad had confiscated truckload of cables during the drive.However, the offenders lay the cable right after the action by the municipal body making the work of the department difficult.Suhas Shinde, a local resident, feels that in order to deter offenders from playing with the safety of the people, the civic body should consider imposing heavy fines on them. These cables are not meant to run long distances and due to sagging they break and pose threat to motorists,” Ali said, adding that there are proper mechanisms to lay cables and the operators should follow them.Prabhakar Pathak, head of AMC anti-encroachment department, said, “A city-wide drive will be initiated from Monday to remove illegal cables.”The municipal drive conducted in October had not witnessed any opposition as notice to cables operators for removal of cables were issued ahead of the drive. Also, at some places the cables can be seen touching the ground as they were not laid in correct manner.According to civil engineer Syed Ali, the wires are mostly of cable TV and are connected without appropriate permissions.“The cables not only harm the aesthetics of the city, but also pose a threat to the safety of the residents.

Aurangabad: Despite the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) undertaking a drive to remove the privately-installed cables running over streetlights and road side poles, the cables have resurfaced and are posing a threat to the pedestrians and motorists.Complying with the high court order for removal of cables installed without permission from the municipal corporation, the anti-encroachment department of the civic body carried out a drive in October.The court had given directives to the civic body in response to a writ petition.
