Aurangabad: The state and district leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday conducted a survey of the drought affected villages in the Sillod taluka of Aurangabad. The survey is aimed at understanding the implementation of drought relief measures by the government in the villages which have been declared as drought-hit. Initiated from Osmanabad on December 9, the squad has covered Beed, Jalna and Aurangabad districts. Parbhani is the next stop in the region.AAP state deputy President Ranga Rathure said that one and half months after the declaration of drought, the government’s aid has still not reached the affected farmers. “The government is trying to pass the time to limit their expenditure for drought relief. In many villages, the survey of the livestock population and fodder requirement is yet to be done, which means it will be another 2 months before the relief starts coming in, after which the code of conduct will be declared in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls,” Rathure said. The squad, comprising of Rathure, state youth President Ajinkya Shinde, the party’s district convener Sugriv Munde and Ajabrao Mankar held ‘Dushkaal Sanwads’ at Nillod, Tanda Bazaar, Soygaon, Talwada, Halda, Ambai and Wadala.Munde said that because of a lack of water and a less than ideal crop yield, farmers are migrating to the cities to search for employment. “The farmers in these villages have no fodder for their livestock and with no help from the government, they are forced to take their animals to other villages,” he said. The party leaders have demanded that the farmers should be provided fodder near their residences and not at the fodder camps so that they don’t have to migrate for their livestock and their milking business can continue.Employment through water shed works, farm compartment binding works and other works under NREGA, crop loan waiver, water supply and education fee waiver comprise AAP’s other demands. If the demands are not met, the party plans to hold a sit-in agitation at the Aurangabad divisional commissionerate in the first week of January.
