Osmanabad Lok Sabha: Ravindra Gaikwad denied ticket, unrest in Shiv Sena camp

Aurangabad: A section of the local unit of Shiv Sena in Osmanabad is unhappy that the party ticket for the Lok Sabha polls has not gone to sitting MP Ravindra Gaikwad. Late Saturday, a group of party workers set out to convey their feeling to party top brass in Mumbai. Earlier, a Sena worker from Osmanabad attempted to immolate himself in protest at Omerga, but alert co-workers swiftly averted what might have been a major tragedy.Shiv Sena replaced Gaikwad with former party MLA Omraje Nimbalkar for Osmanabad Lok Sabha seat. A few Sena leaders and workers managed to reach the state capital on Sunday, but could not manage a meeting with Shiv Sena executive president Udhhav Thackeray.Gaikwad supporters from Omerga and Tuljapur have been at the forefront of the current agitation. However, their buses were detained mid-way.

Gaikwad, who landed in a soup after hitting an Air India staffer with a chappal over petty issue during March 2017, faced stiff opposition from a section of party workers who alleged he was inaccessible and high-handed.The unrest in the Sena camp could benefit rival NCP, whose candidate Ranajagjitsinha Patil is the son of former NCP MP Padamsinh Patil, who is accused of the murder of his cousin and senior Congress leader Pawanraje Nimbalkar, father of Omraje.
