Waqf officials played key role in four shady land deals, says CID

"The preliminary inquiry into the cases has revealed some waqf officials as well as 'muttawalis' (caretakers) played a vital role in the alleged misappropriation of prime properties. "He said the CID has found that the waqf authorities even avoided reporting the incidents wherein the prime properties changed hands. The sources said that the latest probe by the CID into the sale, transfer and change of title of prime waqf properties is limited to four properties in Aurangabad, Nashik, Panvel and Mumbai. The probe was launched about two months ago on the directive of the state government. The CID has drawn the conclusion on the basis of copies of the complaints, documents obtained under RTI and submitted along with complaints and the records obtained from the waqf board.Suradkar said, "Everything was done cleverly and we have found that desperate attempts have been made by the waqf to not leave any written evidence behind.

AURANGABAD: The state criminal investigation department (CID), which is probing fresh complaints of misappropriation of properties owned by Maharashtra State Board of Waqf, has found that some waqf officials played a key role in the scam.The said properties are at Pakmodia Street in Bhendi Bazar , at Morewadi in Nashik , on Jalna Road in Aurangabad and a property owned by a dargah in Panvel.Deputy superintendent of police Sudhakar Suradkar , who is the investigation officer, told TOI that the CID was dealing with fresh complaints only. The CID has drawn the conclusion on the basis of copies of the complaints, documents obtained under RTI and submitted along with complaints and the records obtained from the waqf board.Suradkar said, "Everything was done cleverly and we have found that desperate attempts have been made by the waqf to not leave any written evidence behind."The officer confirmed seizure of some crucial records from the state waqf headquarters in Aurangabad and said that the documents would play a crucial role in nailing the suspects, including land sharks and waqf authorities.Sources in the CID said the documents prepared at the level of trustees and mutawwalis of religious bodies owning these properties are also being collected as they were the ones who reportedly brokered deals with the land sharks. The sources said that the latest probe by the CID into the sale, transfer and change of title of prime waqf properties is limited to four properties in Aurangabad, Nashik, Panvel and Mumbai.
