Banglore: Farmer commits suicide over arrack addiction

A+ A-Bengaluru: A 45-year-old man committed suicide due to his addiction to arrack followed by a protest by the deceased’s kin who gathered around the woman’s house who sold illegal arrack in Soladevanahalli on Thursday. The protestors demanded the illegal business be closed down after deceased Rajanna a farmer committed suicide leaving behind his wife and his two daughters, Banglore Mirror reports. As the deceased suicide came to light, the woman and her sons reportedly fled away said the sources. His depression due to his addiction made him take this extreme step the relative added. The police had to intervene and convince the family to stop agitation after they refused to take away the deceased body for the last ritual rights.

According to sources, the family of the deceased alleged that accused Vijayamma along with her sons Ranjitha and Narasimha have been selling local liquor to the villagers in their petty shop next to the Gram Panchayat. As the deceased suicide came to light, the woman and her sons reportedly fled away said the sources. The police have registered a case against the accused after liquor bottles were found inside the shop. Speaking to a news source, Siddaraju, in-law of the deceased, said the deceased was an alcohol addict over the past few months and had even sold a calf for Rs 15,000 to ensure the arrack reaches him regularly. His depression due to his addiction made him take this extreme step the relative added. The police had to intervene and convince the family to stop agitation after they refused to take away the deceased body for the last ritual rights.
