Webinar on National Librarians day held

A National Webinar was organized on Wednesday on the occasion of National Librarians Day at B.R.Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Mhow. Ranganathan’s life has been very simple and highly-minded, he was always very fond of his profession. It was only due to the efforts of Ranganathan that Madras Library Act was passed in India in 1948. Subsequently, the Library Act has been passed in 19 states so far. The process of passing the Library Act in Madhya Pradesh is underway and Library Act will be implemented in M.P.

A National Webinar was organized on Wednesday on the occasion of National Librarians Day at B.R.Ambedkar University of Social Sciences, Mhow. Prof Kishore John, webinar coordinator, welcomed all the guests and presented the opening statement. On the 128th birth anniversary of S.R. Ranganathan, Ajay P Sing, Director, Rajaram Mohanrai Library Foundation, Calcutta has elaborated on the achievements of Ranganathan’s life and his significant contributions to the development of library science in India. The Keynote Speaker of the Webinar Sangeeta Gupta, Professor of Jammu University, Jammu said that Ranganathan gave his presentation on the topic Librarians as the Pillar of Knowledge, who said that knowledge management is considered to be a very important aspect in today’s information world. Sajjay Kataria, Librarian of Benet University, Greater Noida, said that S.R. Ranganathan’s life has been very simple and highly-minded, he was always very fond of his profession. He was very punctual and was so fond of his profession that even on his wedding day he took only half day leave. He further added that Ranganathan was very hard workeing and his communication skills were of high level. Special Guest G.D Aggarwal, President, Indore Division Library Association said that Even though S.R Ranganathan's life has been full of struggles and challenges, he continued to work in the field of library development in India. It was only due to the efforts of Ranganathan that Madras Library Act was passed in India in 1948. Subsequently, the Library Act has been passed in 19 states so far. The process of passing the Library Act in Madhya Pradesh is underway and Library Act will be implemented in M.P. very soon. Special Guest Prof Arvind Sharma, Department of Library and Information Sciences, Government Post Graduate College, Gwalior said that Dr. S.R Ranganathan's contribution was the Five Laws of Library Science which was published in 1931. It was told by Ranganathan’s son that he embraced Indian philosophy and theology in his life, which is reflected in his contributions. Delivering the Presidential Address, Prof Asha Shukla, Vice Chancellor, said that Ranganathan Chair has been established in the University keeping in mind the contributions of Ranganathan in the area of Library Science and there are plans to undertake works in the area of Library Science which will be implemented after Covid-19. Prof. Kishor John offered the Vote of Thanks.
