Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A Hindu woman along with her three children and husband staged a sit-in in Gwalior on Saturday accusing her in-laws of forcing her to change her religion. Madhu Batham married Bittu Khan a Muslim 10 years back. The wedding was performed as per Hindu rituals and Bittu Khan as claimed by the woman had converted to Hinduism. The couple has three children. Madhu a resident of Saraswati Nagar under Jhansi Road police station in Gwalior district has also accused police of not taking action on her complaint. She said her in-laws didnt fear police action and therefore they ousted her and her children from home. Talking to journalists she said that her in-laws threatened to kill her children and also to rape her if she did not change her religion. “When I refused they threw me out. Why should I change my religion if my husband supports my religion?” she said. "I have accepted Hindu religion. I am with my wife. They (family members) have been threatening us. I have lodged complaints on many occasions but no one is listening me" said Bittu Khan. Additional superintendent of police Hitika Vasal said probe is underway following her complaint. She has not mentioned religion change in her complaint. “Prima facie it seems to be a property dispute between her and her in-laws” she told Free Press over phone.
