Heavy rains play havoc in several parts of Madhya Pradesh

So far, 900 people surrounded by flood water have been rescued safely while 70 people were rescued from Bigwada and 50 people are still trapped there. Due to continuous rains in the state, all small and big rivers including Narmada, Shipra, Chambal, Kali Sindh are in spate. Here in Ujjain, a pregnant woman surrounded by flood water was rescued by helicopter.

Heavy rains have played havoc at several places in the state; railway tracks washed away in Ratlam division, 900 people have been rescued in Ujjain, several areas are flooded leaving people marooned in the past two days of very heavy rainfall. In Indore and Ujjain people from water logged areas have to be rescued by boat. Ujjain Collector Kumar Purushottam has declared holiday on September 18 in all government, private schools and Anganwadi centers from pre-nursery to class 12 in the district. The soil of the railway track between Panch Piplia and Amargarh of Ratlam division was washed away. The up line track of Delhi-Mumbai has been affected. 28 trains going from Delhi via Ratlam are being run through a diverted route, 4 have been short terminated and 7 trains had to be cancelled. A pregnant woman and her husband were rescued by helicopter in Semaliya, Badnagar, Ujjain. Both were trapped in flood water. The situation worsened in Ujjain also after heavy rains. The District Commander said that 12 Home Guard teams are engaged in the rescue work. So far, 900 people surrounded by flood water have been rescued safely while 70 people were rescued from Bigwada and 50 people are still trapped there. At the same time, Swaminarayan temple in Ujjain was also flooded, 30 devotees were evacuated safely from here also. The strong system originating from the Bay of Bengal has taken 13 districts of Madhya Pradesh out of drought (below average rainfall). 6 districts- Bhopal, Alirajpur, Neemuch, Shajapur, Damoh, Singrauli are on the verge of coming out of the red zone. Due to continuous rains in the state, all small and big rivers including Narmada, Shipra, Chambal, Kali Sindh are in spate. On Sunday, 3 gates of Gandhi Sagar Dam in Mandsaur district were opened. Here in Ujjain, a pregnant woman surrounded by flood water was rescued by helicopter. A canal burst in Sajwani village near Barwani city. Water filled houses and fields. Traffic on Barwani-Sendhwa State Highway was stopped due to water reaching the road. Narmada is flowing 19 meters above the danger mark in Barwani. Here, villagers angry over the flood in village Bhavati of the district raised slogans against the government and the district administration. The villagers took out the funeral procession of the effigies of the Chief Minister and the Prime Minister in the village. After this the effigies were burnt. Indore city has never seen such rain in September in 61 years. Due to the continuous rain overnight, water flooded entered many houses. In Bhimpur, which is called the Kalapani of Betul 17.52 inches of rainfall was recorded in the last 24 hours which is the highest in the entire state.
